====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== January 22, 2008 New Mexico--Your Voice Crucial in Preserving Traditional Family Dear HSLDA Members and Friends, The New Mexico legislative session has just started, and already the push for anti-family legislation has been strong. H.B. 9 would permit same-sex couples to enter into spousal unions and to have the same rights, responsibilities, and obligations as married couples. This bill is the same as the 2007 H.B. 603 which nearly snuck through at the end of the session. H.B. 9 already passed the House Consumer and Public Affairs Committee, and it could have a vote in the Judiciary Committee at any time. We are working together with CAPE of New Mexico to defeat this bill, and we need your help to support the traditional family. ACTION REQUESTED Please call and/or email the members of the New Mexico House Judiciary Committee and, in your own words, give them this message: "Please oppose legislation that recognizes domestic partner rights. Please vote against House Bill 9, which is an attack on traditional marriage, erodes the family and endangers parental rights." You do not need to identify yourself as a homeschooler. Though this bill affects homeschoolers, it also affects every family in New Mexico.
