====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== January 18, 2008 Nebraska Christian Home Educators Association (NCHEA) Legislative Day Dear HSLDA Members and Friends, On Wednesday, February 6, 2008, the Nebraska Christian Home Educators Association (NCHEA) is sponsoring its Legislative Day at the Capitol. Families will meet in Lincoln to watch hearings, meet senators, and learn about the legislative process. The event is free, and family members of all ages are welcome. The day will include: >Training on contacting senators; >Investigating how a bill becomes a law; >Receiving resource materials; >Observing part of a legislative hearing; and >Participating in a special tour of the capitol. We at the Home School Legal Defense Association believe it is very important for as many homeschool families to attend as possible. Nearly every year there is harmful legislation to fight or helpful legislation to pass. This year, a bill to require testing of all Nebraska homeschoolers is expected to be introduced, and it is vital that you make your views on this legislation known. NCHEA's Legislative Day is an excellent way to do this. In our 25 years at HSLDA, we have seen how effective legislative days are in preventing bad legislation or enacting good law. If legislators from either party never meet a homeschooler, they will often vote against homeschooling when given the opportunity. However, if they meet a good homeschool family face-to-face, it opens their eyes to the hardship they would cause if they vote to restrict home education. During each session of the Unicameral, NCHEA and HSLDA monitor bills, hearings, and debates that impact your parental rights. It is our goal to work together to educate senators about your inherent right to homeschool and the benefits of homeschooling. NCHEA Home Educators Legislative Day will be packed with civics adventures and learning for all! Register by January 30 at http://www.nchea.org/events/legday.cfm For more information, go to www.NCHEA.org, or contact Deb Badeer at register@fsvmail.net This day is important as we work to build relationships and maintain your liberties. I hope you will attend! Sincerely, Michael P. Donnelly, Esq. HSLDA Staff Attorney ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -> Have you ever yelled into the wind, only to hear the sound of your voice blown back at you? It's hard to be heard in the midst of a storm. Trying to influence federal legislation is much like yelling to be heard while standing in a fierce wind. Yet when 80,000 voices join together, they become a powerful force that cannot be drowned out. Join HSLDA to be heard above the tempests that threaten homeschool freedoms.
