1. Indiana: Family Told What Curriculum to Use

A member family asked for help when a public school official tried to
dictate what curriculum their son should use. We informed the family
they were not required to use the curriculum, nor even to meet with
officials.

2. Washington Times Op-ed--Treaty Threatens Parents' Rights

It's possible that in the near future, the United States may
significantly weaken the rights of parents to raise their children.
Crucial decisions that parents are accustomed to making could become
decisions for the state if the United States ratifies the U.N.
Convention on the Rights of the Child.

3. Alabama: Health Department Seeks Immunization Records

A church school contacted Home School Legal Defense Association after
county officials asked for information about students' immunization
records. We informed officials that they have no legal right to make
such a request.

4. New York: Trouble in the City

Government delays in processing paperwork have led to some homeschool
families wrongfully being accused of truancy. HSLDA recommends that
families beginning to homeschool in New York City contact us.

5. Oklahoma: Potentially Dangerous Ordinance Changed

With the aid of an alert member family, HSLDA persuaded city council
members to change a proposed amendment that could have imposed serious
