Wisconsin--Annual Notice to Department of Public Instruction Reminder
Dear HSLDA Members:
This is just a reminder for those operating under Wisconsin's
homeschool law that your annual notice of intent to homeschool is due
October 15.
Wisconsin's "home-based private educational program" statute requires
every homeschool family to submit a statement of enrollment to the
Department of Public Instruction (DPI), indicating whether their
homeschool program meets all the requirements under the law.
You will be asked the following questions, and to meet all the
requirements of a "home-based private educational program" under
Wisconsin statutes, you must be able to answer "True" to the following
statements:
a. primary purpose of the program is to provide private or
religious-based education,
b. the program is privately controlled,
c. the program provides at least 875 hours of instruction each school
year,
d. the program provides a sequentially progressive curriculum of
fundamental instruction in the required subjects; this does not
require the program to include or exclude in its curriculum any
concept, topic or practice in conflict with the program's religious
doctrines, and
e. the program is not operated to circumvent the compulsory attendance
law.
If your school system or DPI asks you to provide information in
addition to the above requirements, please let us know.
The form is available by calling (608) 266-5761 or toll-free (888)
245-2732, ext. 1. The DPI mails the forms out every Friday. It should
be completed and submitted to the DPI at the following address:

According to the law, your notice should be received by the DPI by
October 15.
