2. Tennessee: Trouble in Cumberland County

A local school district attempted to impose an unlawful policy on
families conducting home instruction. At the request of a member
family, HSLDA intervened.

.....................................................................
3. Maryland: New Homeschool Student Drivers Face Extra Red Tape

All students under age 16, including homeschool students, now have an
additional hoop to jump through to get a learner's driver permit--but
it could have been worse.

.....................................................................
4. Alabama: State Superintendent Amends Reporting Memorandum

In the absence of any statutory authority to the contrary, HSLDA
continues to maintain that Alabama law does not require church schools
to complete any portion of the Annual Report of Non-Public Schools.

5. Arkansas: Bills Fail in Legislature

A bill that would have increased restrictions on who may homeschool

Unfortunately, so did a proposed educational tax credit.

7. HSF: Help Homeschoolers Through Federal Fund-raiser

If you are a federal worker or a member of the military, you can help
hundreds of struggling homeschool families by taking part in the
annual Combined Federal Campaign fund-raiser. Home School Foundation,
the charitable arm of HSLDA, has again been accepted by the CFC under
the umbrella of Christian Service Charities. Please look for us under
our new number--10535--where your gift can aid homeschooling widows,
single parents, college students and others.

8. Assistant Editor Position Available

HSLDA seeks applications for a full-time assistant editor in its
Communications Department. The ideal candidate has exceptional editing
and writing abilities, thrives on finding just the right word, and
teasing out grammar kinks in others' writing.
