====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== August 21, 2007 New Hampshire--HSLDA Recommends Filing Letter of Intent with Private Schools Dear HSLDA Members: As you prepare your letter of intent this year, remember that you have a choice when it comes to participating agencies. New Hampshire homeschoolers must file their letter of intent and subsequent year-end assessment with one of the following: 1) the local school district, 2) the department of education, or 3) a private school. The Home School Legal Defense Association recommends that you consider filing the required paperwork with a private school. This avoids unnecessary and potentially burdensome entanglement with the government schools. We believe that selecting the appropriate private institution will minimize the risk of negative contact with public school officials. HSLDA has created a list of private schools that serve as participating agencies for New Hampshire homeschoolers. You may view this information here: http://www.hslda.org/hs/state/NH/200708100.asp. By way of reminder, Senate Bill 18, which increased the age of compulsory attendance, does not go into effect until July 2009. Thus, this year, there is no need to file a letter of intent for any student who is 16 years old or older. HSLDA is privileged to be able to serve its members and resolve issues specific to their school district.
