Wyoming--Superintendents Want to Approve Your Plan

Dear HSLDA Members:

Superintendents from a number of Wyoming school districts appear to
have a fundamental misunderstanding of their state's homeschool law. A
number of Wyoming members have contacted the Home School Legal Defense
Association after receiving a letter from their local superintendent
indicating that they must submit their homeschool curriculum for
approval. Some districts are even requiring that parents personally
review with the district any curriculum changes from the previous
year. HSLDA is contacting each of these districts to inform them that
Wyoming law requires neither approval nor a personal interview.

Some school officials are also telling homeschoolers that they must
complete and submit a "Verification of Non-Public School
Participation" form, which they send to all non-public schools,
including homeschools. Homeschoolers across the country are asked to
submit similar information in one format or another as school
districts attempt to comply with federal regulations requiring them to
identify all children who qualify for special education programs.
Though public school districts must attempt to contact non-public
schools, private schools and homeschools are not obligated to respond.
Thus, you may choose not to return any "Verification of Non-Public
School Participation" form you may receive. HSLDA has written letters
to several districts asking them to notify homeschoolers that
submission of these forms is optional.

If you encounter difficulties with local school officials regarding
these or other issues, please contact us. HSLDA is privileged to be
able to serve its members and resolve issues specific to their school
district. Your membership allows us to advocate for homeschooling
freedom in Wyoming, with our federal government, and all over the
world. We thank you for your attention to these important matters of
freedom and for your ongoing support.

Sincerely,

Michael P. Donnelly, Esq.
