Vermont--Home Study Enrollment Reminder
Dear HSLDA Members,
It is that time of year again! Those of you who plan to comply with the Vermont homeschool law and enroll your children in a home study program in Vermont should be getting your paperwork ready to submit to the Department of Education. Though there is no specific statutory deadline for submitting your enrollment notice, it is a good idea to send it in before the public school year begins. To assist you in submitting the appropriate information, the Home School Legal Defense Association has developed forms (http://members.hslda.org/state/VT/default.asp) for members' use.
You can also find a summary of Vermont home education law at http://www.hslda.org/laws/analysis/Vermont.pdf. Home School Legal Defense Association recommends that our members use our forms, as the state's forms may request information the law does not require you to report.
For example, the Vermont Department of Education's Form E, "Home Study Instructor(s) or Service Provider(s)," asks for information about any person who is providing "ongoing instruction or supplemental services such as speech, OT or PT." Vermont law requires only that you submit contact information for and the signature of any person who will provide ongoing instruction in any of the required subjects. You are NOT required to submit information regarding persons who may be providing supplemental services or instruction in elective subjects.
If you have any specific questions regarding your enrollment notice or any other Vermont homeschooling issue, please do not hesitate to contact our main office at (540) 338-5600.
Have a wonderful school year!
Sincerely,
Michael P. Donnelly, Esq. HSLDA Staff Attorney
