"We've been a Liberty Mutual customer for over 12 years. We
called and asked about our HSLDA member discount and they lowered
our premium by approx $95 per year...coincidentally the same
amount as our HSLDA annual membership fee. Thought you'd want to
know!!'"

1. Washington Times Op-ed--High-Scoring Enlisted Given Top Tier

Historically, the experience of homeschool graduates with the military
has been one of recurring difficulty. This is largely due to the
military being unwilling to see homeschoolers as individuals,
preferring instead to use traditional high school diplomas from public
or private schools as the only acceptable standard for enlistment.

2. Colorado: Legislative Wrap-Up--Positive Developments

This year the Colorado legislature closed on May 9. Even though the
House, Senate, and Governorship all transferred to Democratic
leadership, homeschool freedom survived.

3. Virginia: Homeschool Graduate Hired as EMT after Brief Struggle

A homeschool graduate applying for a job as an emergency medical
technician contacted Home School Legal Defense Association when a
hiring agency refused to accept his diploma as valid.

4. Indiana: Homeschool Dad Wins State Senate Seat

Despite attempts to discredit HSLDA in the eyes of voters, homeschool
dad Greg Walker was recently elected to the Indiana Senate.

5. Florida: Legislative Wrap-Up--Freedoms Preserved

The Florida legislature closed May 4, after two short months in
session. Although we tracked many bills that would have potentially
impacted homeschool freedoms, nothing passed.

6. Learn Constitutional Law Online with Michael Farris

If you've always wanted to learn more about the history and background
of our legal system, from a biblical perspective, or if you're looking
for a good U.S. government class for your homeschooled students, then
sign up for the next Constitutional Law course taught by Michael
Farris. The class begins September 10, 2007, and concludes February
25, 2008.

This 18-week Internet-based course follows Farris' textbook,
"Constitutional Law for Enlightened Citizens," and uses an MP3 CD to
deliver the "classroom" lectures.

7. 'Home School Heartbeat': Avoiding Lukewarm Relationships

Homeschooling allows parents and children a unique opportunity to
build strong family relationships. But in the busyness of day-to-day
living, it's easy to let these relationships grow "lukewarm." This
week, Michael Farris talks with homeschooling mom Zan Tyler, who
offers parents encouragement and insight into making family
relationships a priority.
