On behalf of a new member family, Home School Legal Defense
Association resolved a difficulty involving a public school official's
unauthorized request for additional documentation concerning the
family's plans to homeschool.

2. Alabama: State Compels Unauthorized Reporting

The top state education official recently issued a memorandum stating
that church schools--through which many Alabama families
homeschool--must complete the 2007-2008 Annual Report of Non-Public
Schools form. This requirement is not authorized by state law.

3. Georgia: Superintendent Tries to Set Family's School Year

In response to a family's request for assistance, HSLDA reminded
public school officials that state law says homeschoolers--not
district superintendents--determine the school year for their home
study program.

4. Illinois: Wheaton School District 'Checks Up' on Homeschool Family

A member family immediately contacted us when they received a letter
from public school officials demanding a portfolio, test scores, and
other information. We informed school officials that their demands
were outside the law.

5. Homeschooling Thru High School: Summer Jobs

Summer jobs afford your children the opportunity of making money,
taking on responsibility, developing skills, and getting "real world"
experience, all of which will help them build a better resume. For
information on resume writing and interview skills, look at the page
of our Homeschooling Thru High School website at:

6. Order Now to Save on SAT/ACT Test Prep Kit

For the past two years, HSLDA has partnered with eKnowledge and NFL
players to offer free SAT/ACT test preparation products to homeschool
students. Only shipping and handling charges of $9.95 per test kit
have been charged to homeschoolers. Rising costs, however, are
prompting a corresponding shipping charge increase to $13.84 per test
kit beginning July 1. To take advantage of the current $9.95
rate--order today!

7. 'Home School Heartbeat': From Tyndale to Madison, Part 1

William Tyndale set in motion a chain of events that would lead to the
American Bill of Rights. On this week's "Home School Heartbeat,"
Michael Farris reads excerpts from his new book, "From Tyndale to
Madison," about the many heroes who fought for religious freedom in
England and America.
