====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== June 20, 2007 Nebraska--Legislative Wrap-Up Dear HSLDA members and friends, The Nebraska Legislature has adjourned for the year. Throughout the Legislature's 2007 session, Home School Legal Defense Association tracked four bills that could affect homeschoolers. None of them became law. Unfortunately, Legislative Bill 101 was indefinitely postponed at the beginning of February. This bill would have required that only one homeschooling parent (instead of the current two) submit the annual affidavit to the Department of Education. The bill would have eased the administrative burden for all and most especially for single parent homeschoolers. Also, Legislative Bill 571, which would have allowed any two adults to adopt children, never made it out of the Judiciary Committee for a vote in the Unicameral. Overall, this was a good legislative session for Nebraska homeschoolers. We are grateful for your vigilance and involvement to support parental rights and to keep homeschooling in Nebraska free from unreasonable governmental interference. If you have questions regarding a particular homeschooling legislative issue, please feel free to contact us. Sincerely, Michael P. Donnelly, Esq. We don't know that this has ever been determined; but we do know that HSLDA's National Center for Home Education is the only national organization lobbying on behalf of homeschoolers on Capitol Hill.
