Washington state, and the Scripps National Spelling Bee, Evan O'Dorney
of California, were educated primarily by their parents in home-based
instruction programs, a fact that was underreported by the media.

2. Nevada: Victory for Homeschool Freedom Bill

Thanks to the efforts of state homeschoolers working with Home School
Legal Defense Association, Nevada will now enjoy one of the best
homeschooling laws in the country.

3. Florida: Family Threatened With Being Turned Over to State's
Attorney

When a family's routine notice of intent to homeschool resulted in
phone calls, visits and the threat of legal action by the local school
superintendent, we intervened.

4. Texas: Social Worker Tries to Investigate Children's English Skills

A member family called our hotline when a social worker appeared at
their door, questioning their children's English skills. We helped the
family persuade the social worker to close the case, without their
children being interviewed.

5. Illinois: Homeschool Family Receives Several Calls a Day from
Authorities

Daily phone calls from public school officials prompted a member
family to contact us. The family had notified officials that they
intended to homeschool, but authorities wanted additional paperwork.
We intervened, and the phone calls ended.

6. Make History Fun this Summer

For some history fun this summer, check out the Thanksusa website.
Besides teaching history, the organization aids children and spouses
of those serving in our military. This online treasure hunt is geared
to all ages so it can be enjoyed by the whole family.
