====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== New Hampshire: S.B.18 Update--Not Effective Until July 1, 2009 Dear HSLDA members and friends, In my last email I promised to update our web analysis in the coming weeks--but before that there is one more important point about S.B. 18 you should know. This law does not go into effect until July 1, 2009. This means that New Hampshire homeschoolers will not need to submit notification for students who are age 16 or older until the 2009-2010 school year. This also means that there is yet one more session with the current legislature and one session with a new legislature between now and the effective date of S.B. 18. Therefore it is possible to attempt to further modify or repeal the legislation prior to its effective date. The vote of 200-156 in favor of S.B. 18 indicates a tough battle to repeal the law with the current legislature. However, it may be possible to recommend modifications that would make the legislation better for homeschoolers. If the legislature changes significantly in 2009 it may be possible to outright repeal it. HSLDA will continue to work with New Hampshire homeschool leaders to oppose increases in governmental intrusion and to support legislation that improves homeschooling freedoms.
