JOINT LEGISLATIVE NEWSFLASH UPDATE - June 1, 2007
From: Roy Hanson's Child and Family Protection Association and HSLDA

Bill: AB 755 - Prohibition of Spanking
Author: Assembly Member Sally Lieber
Position: Strongly Oppose
Status: Stopped In Assembly Appropriations Committee May 31, 2007
***** ***** ***** *****

AB 755 failed to be passed out of the Assembly Appropriations
Committee on May 31, 2007, and therefore cannot become law this year.
It will not be reconsidered until next January 2008. If it were to
pass out of the Assembly at that time, it would still have to be
passed by committee and floor votes in the Senate before being sent to
the Governor for his veto or signature.

This is a tremendous victory!

AB 755 would have the practical effect of eliminating spanking with an
implement (i.e. inanimate object, such as a small paddle or ruler) in
California. We are very grateful to God for His intervention, and for
your prayers, and your calls and letters to your legislators
concerning this very dangerous bill.

We believe very strongly that this bill is an extremely dangerous
attack on the rights of all parents in California to be able to
determine for themselves what is the best way to raise and discipline
their children. As a result, we have spent many long hours over the
past several months working with HSLDA and others, and with key
legislative offices to understand, explain, and fight against this
complicated bill.

NO further action is needed on AB 755 at this time.

If AB 755, or any similar bill, should be brought up by the
Legislature at any time in the future, we will issue an appropriate
Action Alert.

If you want more details on AB 755, read our 1) April 24th Updated
Action Alert (for which the Action Items are on hold for the rest of
this year) and 2) our May 30, 2007 backgrounder, "AB 755 - Updated
Alert Supplement," which are posted at
http://www.childandfamilyprotection.org.
