Maine--Come to 'Homeschool Day at the Capitol' June 12!
Dear HSLDA members and friends,
As part of a long-range strategy to protect homeschool freedom and educate families, Homeschoolers of Maine (HOME) is sponsoring a "Homeschool Day at the Capitol" on Tuesday, June 12. This great event will help draw families to Augusta to make vital face-to-face contact with their lawmakers.
We at the Home School Legal Defense Association believe it is very important for as many homeschool families to attend as possible. Nearly every year there is harmful legislation to fight or pro-homeschool freedom bills to pass.
In our 24 years at HSLDA, we have seen how effective capitol days are in preventing bad legislation or enacting good law. If legislators from either party never meet a homeschooler, they will often vote against homeschooling when given the opportunity. However, if they meet a good homeschool family face-to-face, it opens their eyes to the hardship they would cause if they vote to restrict homeschooling.
In addition to protecting your freedom, the "Homeschool Day at the Capitol" is a great field trip opportunity for your children to learn about our government and how laws are made. Governor Baldacci has proclaimed June 10-16, 2007 as "Home Education Week." Come help us celebrate!
Schedule of Events:

"When I called Liberty to find out what kind of discount we could get, they told us we would 10% off our car insurance and 5% off our homeowner's insurance. What we will save is more than double what it costs to join HSLDA. With one child getting his driver's license this year, the savings will be a real blessing!"
