====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== May 11, 2007 New Hampshire--Calls Needed to the Governor to Defend Traditional Family Dear HSLDA members and friends, The New Hampshire General Court has just passed House Bill 437, which gives same-sex couples the right to enter civil unions and have the same rights, responsibilities, and obligations as do married couples. The only thing necessary for this bill to become law is Governor John Lynch's signature. Though Governor Lynch has said he will sign the bill, there is still time to convince him to change his mind. Please pray that God will change his heart. We are encouraging all New Hampshire families who oppose the institution of civil unions in New Hampshire to contact Governor Lynch and ask him to veto House Bill 437. ACTION REQUESTED 1) Please call or email Governor Lynch, and in your own words, give him the following message: "New Hampshire law defines marriage as the union of a man and a woman. This should not be changed. Please oppose House Bill 437, which, by giving same-gender couples the same rights, responsibilities, and obligations as married couples, erodes the strength of the traditional family and threatens parental rights." It is not necessary to identify yourself as a homeschooler, as this issue affects every family in New Hampshire. You can reach Governor Lynch by phone at (603) 271-2121 or via email through his website at http://www.egov.nh.gov/governor/goveforms/comments.asp . BACKGROUND House Bill 437 will ultimately: 1. Violate the very moral and ethical foundations of our culture. 2. Restrict the rights of our citizens to make moral distinctions and to speak freely. 3. Promote dysfunctional family structures that will rob the next generation. 4. Ignore the overwhelming vote of New Hampshire citizens to preserve traditional marriage. 5. Provide special rights for a few and ignore the civil rights of the majority of New Hampshire citizens. 6. Discriminate against parental moral values and convictions. 7. Promote behaviors that clearly violate common sense and social stability. 8. Create a huge economic strain on New Hampshire. 9. Elevate the already taxed judicial system in dealing with lawsuits over these issues. 10. Infringe on the constitutional protection of the free exercise of religion. Thank you for standing for traditional marriage and parental rights! Sincerely, Michael P. Donnelly, Esq.
