1. Hawaii: Schools Demand Approval of Year-End Test

Some Hawaii homeschool parents have received letters warning that if
they want to test their children outside of the public school they
must get approval to do so. This is not what state law declares.

2. Washington: Grandparent Visitation Bill Defeated--For Now

False laboratory results led to the investigation of a member family
on allegations of child abuse. With the help of our attorney, the
family refuted the allegations and kept social workers from entering
their home.

3. Arizona: Attempt to Raise School Attendance Age Fails

Homeschoolers in Arizona reacted quickly again this year to a Home
School Legal Defense Association e-lert warning of a bill that could
restrict parental freedom. A flood of phone calls and other messages
helped persuade state lawmakers not to raise the compulsory school
attendance age.
