====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== April 18, 2007 Illinois: Your Attendance Needed at the Homeschool Day at the Capitol Dear HSLDA members and friends: The Christian Home Educators Coalition invites all home-educating families to its Home School Day at the Capitol on Wednesday, May 2, 2007 at the Illinois State Capitol in Springfield. We at the Home School Legal Defense Association believe it is very important for as many homeschool families to attend as possible. The current Illinois Legislature is NOT pro-family. At any time, they could introduce legislation to restrict homeschooling. However, we have seen how effective capitol lobby days are in preventing bad legislation. If a legislator from either party meets a good homeschool family face-to-face, it makes it hard for them to vote to restrict homeschooling. If they never meet a homeschooler, they will often vote against homeschooling when given the opportunity. You can turn the event into an educational field trip for your children, by touring the capitol, singing at the Lincoln Statue, attending the rally, and visiting your legislators. The Christian Home Educators Coalition asks that each family bring two homemade cherry pies to give to your legislators. Plan ahead by making an appointment with your legislators and take advantage of this opportunity! Don't miss this year's great event! On the agenda: 1:00 p.m. Sing at the Lincoln Statue 1:15 p.m. Rally in the Howlett Building Auditorium 2:30 p.m. Visit with our Legislators 4:00 p.m. Douglas Park for picnic (weather permitting) For more information, please go to http://www.chec.cc/Legislative_Day/legislative_day.html . BACKGROUND Below are MORE reasons to attend the Capitol Day: > Dispel any negative myths about the homeschool movement. > Give legislators an understanding of the large numbers of homeschoolers within the state. > Provide positive literature to legislators regarding homeschooling. > Spend one-on-one time with your legislator. > Your presence is necessary to show that the homeschool movement is alive, well, and thriving strong. Please, help keep homeschooling free in Illinois. A significant statement is made to your legislators when home educators participate in the Day at the Capitol on May 2. We hope you can come this year! Sincerely, Christopher J. Klicka Senior Counsel ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -> Will your children's inheritance retain its value? If you pass on a legacy of freedom, your children and their children's children will thank you. But freedom is never secure; it must always be guarded. Membership with HSLDA is an investment in the future that can be passed on to future generations of families wanting to teach their children at home.
