New Hampshire--More Calls Needed to Resist State Control Over Homeschools!
Dear HSLDA members and friends,
The New Hampshire House Education Committee will have a public hearing on Senate Bill 18 on Wednesday, April 18, 2007, at 10 a.m. in the Legislative Office Building, Rooms 205-207.
Currently in New Hampshire, students cannot discontinue their high school studies without parental consent. Senate Bill 18 would give superintendents, rather than parents, the authority to decide when children can discontinue their high school education before age 18. This bill would add additional reporting requirements for homeschoolers.
Calls and emails are now needed to persuade the House Education Committee to vote against this legislation. Remember, there are many new representatives in the New Hampshire House who are unfamiliar with this bill's flaws.
ACTION REQUESTED
1) Please contact members of the House Education Committee (listed below) and ask them to oppose Senate Bill 18. Because this bill affects all students, you need not identify yourself as a homeschooler. If your last name begins with the letter A-I, please contact members 1-6; if J-T, contact members 7-13; if U-Z, contact members 13-19.
2) Please contact your own representative and ask him or her to vote against Senate Bill 18 when it comes to the floor of the House. You can use our legislative toolbox at http://www.hslda.org/toolbox to obtain contact information.
Your message can be as simple as, "Please vote against Senate Bill 18. This bill is unnecessary, and even harmful to families, as it takes away parental decision-making authority and wastes taxpayer money."
