====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== April 5, 2007 Texas: Calls Needed to Support College Scholarships Dear HSLDA members and friends: An important bill is being considered in the House Higher Education Committee during their meeting April 10. H.B. 1250, sponsored by Representative Charlie Howard, will amend the current law and allow low income private school students to receive the Texas Grant Scholarship (this will include private school students at home). This bill will remove the term "accredited" that is presently required for the Texas Grant Scholarship. This will remove the discrimination against non-accredited private schools and homeschools in Texas. Please take a moment and call the Higher Education Committee to show your support for this bill. REQUESTED ACTION Please call the members of the House Higher Education Committee before April 10, 2007, and give them this message: "Please support H.B. 1250 which will remove current discrimination against some low income students in receiving scholarships."
