====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== Maryland--Calls Needed Urgently on Special Ed Services Bill Dear HSLDA members and friends, Time is short! Although the bill that would give homeschoolers fair access to federally funded special education services (S.B. 116) passed the Senate unanimously, we urgently need your help. The Legislature will adjourn in a few days. It is crucial that the House Ways and Means Committee vote on the bill within the next 24 hours so it can get to the house floor in time for a vote! ACTION REQUESTED: 1. Please immediately call members of the House Ways and Means Committee--especially if your own delegate is listed as a committee member below. Your message can be as simple as: "Please promptly vote in favor of S.B. 116. This bill will have no fiscal impact on state funds, but will make federally funded education services available to an entire class of non-public school students who are now locked out. The parents of those students pay federal taxes, so state law should give them equal access to those services." Use our legislative toolbox to see if one of the committee members is your delegate. 2. Please pass this on to five homeschool families. We need more calls! CONTACT INFORMATION: Sheila E. S.B. 116 solves this problem by putting homeschool students on equal footing with private school students. While we recommend that families obtain special education services privately when that is possible, the simple fact is that many homeschool families do not have the insurance or money to pay for this. Without this bill, they may simply have to do without. Thank you for standing with us for freedom! Sincerely Yours, Scott A. An interesting phenomenon of wind is that it can blow in multiple directions at the same time, at different heights from the ground. But usually there is a prevailing wind. HSLDA watches the gusts and monitors the prevailing trends of change in the legal climate of home education. So no matter which way the wind is blowing, we're there to protect your family.
