1. U.S. Marine Corps Opens Doors Wide for Homeschool Graduates

The U.S. Marine Corps has joined the U.S. Army in actively pursuing
homeschooled students. A recent statement from the Marine Corps
Recruiting Command Public Affairs Chief makes it clear that
homeschoolers are eligible to enlist in all military programs, the
same as a graduate from public school.

3. Nevada: Homeschool Freedom Bill Introduced

In Nevada, homeschoolers are excited by S.B. 404, a homeschool bill
that has been introduced by Senator Maurice E. Washington, chairman of
the Committee on Human Resources and Education. This bill would
eliminate nearly all of the current regulation homeschoolers face in
Nevada.

4. North Dakota: Grand Forks Challenges Home Education Supervisors

In November 2006, Home School Legal Defense Association assisted two
member families in Grand Forks after school officials asserted that
the fathers did not qualify as supervisors of their respective home
education programs.

5. HSLDA Restarts Congressional Action Program

Congressional Action Program lobbyists are back in full force. After
the program's three-year hiatus, HSLDA President Mike Smith and HSLDA
Director of Federal Relations Will Estrada, reinstituted CAP earlier
this year with the focus on training families to become
citizen-lobbyists on Capitol Hill.

6. Rhode Island: Truancy Charges Filed Against Out-of-District
Homeschooler

A simple failure in communication between two Rhode Island school
districts dragged one single mom into truancy court this February. Had
it not been for HSLDA's intervention, the error would have resulted in
a truancy conviction.
