New Hampshire: Your Help Needed to Defend Traditional Family
Dear HSLDA members and friends,
The New Hampshire Legislature continues to attack the traditional, God-ordained family structure! Last week, the House Judiciary Committee voted to prevent New Hampshire citizens from voting on a constitutional amendment that would define marriage as a union between one man and one woman.
This same Judiciary Committee also recommended passage of several pro-same-sex union bills. One of these bills establishes civil unions in the exact same form as marriages. Another requires New Hampshire to recognize all marriages performed in other states.
Furthermore, last week, the House passed a bill allowing adoption by any two unmarried adults in a familial relationship.
Unless New Hampshire citizens actively and publicly protest the Legislature's actions, marriage as we know it in New Hampshire will be destroyed! It is vital that we support traditional marriage because a parent's right to homeschool is based on western civilization's concept of the family as a union between a man and a woman.
You can make a difference by going to the Statehouse at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, March 27, 2007. Karen Testerman, the Director of Cornerstone Research (a pro-family action group), will be there, along with many other pro-family groups and citizens to demand that the Legislature allow the people to decide whether marriage should be preserved or destroyed.
ACTION REQUESTED
1) Join Karen Testerman and other pro-family representatives at the Statehouse on Tuesday, March 27 at 9 a.m. to hold signs, hand out flyers, wear stickers, and be present in the gallery at the Statehouse to show support for traditional marriage. The more people present, the more impact we can have.
2) Contact as many New Hampshire representatives and senators as possible, and encourage them to vote in support of traditional marriage. In your own words, give them this message:
"New Hampshire law already defines marriage as the union of a man and a woman. This should not be changed. Please oppose legislation that recognizes same-sex marriage and give New Hampshire citizens the chance to express their views on the constitutional amendment defining traditional marriage. Please vote against all bills that erode the strength of the traditional family and threaten parental rights."
You do not have to identify yourself as a homeschooler. Though this issue affects homeschoolers, it also affects every family in New Hampshire.
You can find your senator or representative's information at http://www.hslda.org/toolbox .
Thank you for standing for traditional marriage and parental rights!
Sincerely,
Michael P. Donnelly, Esq. HSLDA Staff Attorney
