====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== March 20, 2007 New Hampshire--Your Voice Crucial in Preserving Traditional Family Dear HSLDA members and friends, House Bill 51, which would allow unmarried "couples" to jointly adopt children, is scheduled for a House vote on Wednesday, March 21. Calls and emails to all members of the House are needed to oppose this dangerous bill. If passed, House Bill 51 would create a situation where a child could end up having more than two legal parents. Allowing unmarried couples to jointly adopt children puts these adopted children at risk by making them the only legal strand in divisive custody battles when these unmarried couples decide to go their separate ways. Statistics show that unmarried or co-habiting "families" are less stable than married families. For more information on House Bill 51, see http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=3928 . ACTION REQUESTED: Please call your state representative and, in your own words, give him or her this message: "Please vote against House Bill 51 to protect the historical understanding of the adoption process and to preserve the traditional structure of the family. Children should not have three or more parents nor should they serve as the only legal connection between people. Such a situation puts children at the focal point of terrible custody battles when these less stable relationships dissolve and the child becomes the only 'thing' to fight over." You do not need to identify yourself as a homeschooler. Though this bill affects homeschoolers, it also affects every family in New Hampshire. You can find your representative's contact information at http://www.hslda.org/toolbox . You can find additional information on http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=3929 . Thank you on behalf of all parents in New Hampshire! Sincerely, Michael P. Donnelly, Esq.
