====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== March 20, 2007 New Hampshire: Your Help Needed to Defend Traditional Family Dear HSLDA members and friends, There is a proposed amendment to the New Hampshire Constitution ("CRCA1") defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman. The proposed constitutional amendment is scheduled for an Executive Session on Thursday, March 22, at 10 a.m. However, four other bills that would result in legal recognition of same-sex unions the state are being heard at the same time. These are House Bills 235, 437, 791, and 905. It is critical that you contact members of the House Judiciary Committee and encourage them to vote against House Bills 235, 437, 791, and 905 and for the marriage amendment. These bills are important because they affect the historical understanding of the family. Consequently, the fundamental right of parents to homeschool could be affected because the right to homeschool is based on the sanctity of a traditional interpretation of the family. ACTION REQUESTED: Please call as many members of the House Judiciary Committee (listed below) as possible and, in your own words, give them this message: "New Hampshire law already defines marriage as the union of a man and a woman. This should not be changed. Please oppose legislation that recognizes same-sex marriage and support the constitutional amendment defining traditional marriage. Please vote against House Bills 235, 437, 791, and 905, which will erode the strength of the traditional family and threaten parental rights." You do not need to identify yourself as a homeschooler. Though this bill affects homeschoolers, it also affects every family in New Hampshire. House Judiciary Committee Rep. David E. Cote (D), Chair Phone: (603) 882-2244 Rep. Janet G.
