New Mexico: Your Voice Crucial in Preserving Traditional Family
Dear HSLDA members and friends,
The New Mexico legislative session is drawing to a close. We have written to you before about H.B. 603, the bill which would permit same-sex couples to enter into spousal unions and to have the same rights, responsibilities, and obligations as married couples. This bill has already passed through the House as well as the Senate committees. The next step is a vote by the full Senate. H.B. 603 will probably have a vote on the Senate floor sometime between today, Thursday, March 15, and noon on Saturday, March 17, when the legislative session closes.
ACTION REQUESTED
Please call and/or email your New Mexico state senator and, in your own words, give them this message:
"Please oppose legislation that recognizes domestic partner rights. Please vote against Senate Bill 603, which is an attack on traditional marriage, erodes the family and endangers parental rights."
You do not need to identify yourself as a homeschooler. Though this bill affects homeschoolers, it also affects every family in New Mexico.
You can find how to contact your Senator by using our Legislative Toolbox at http://capwiz.com/hslda/state/main/?state=NM&view=myofficials
BACKGROUND
Your right to homeschool rests on another freedom: the freedom to direct the education and upbringing of your children. Underlying your right to homeschool are parental rights, which are supported by the sanctity of marriage. Anything that undermines marriage may ultimately undermine parental rights and therefore threaten your freedom to homeschool.
Thank you for standing with us for freedom.
Sincerely,
Christopher J. Klicka HSLDA Senior Counsel

We don't know that this has ever been determined; but we do know that HSLDA's National Center for Home Education is the only national organization lobbying on behalf of homeschoolers on Capitol Hill.
