====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== March 9, 2007 New Hampshire: Your Voice Crucial in Preserving Traditional Family Dear HSLDA members and friends, House Bill 51 is scheduled for an executive session on Wednesday, March 14, 2007, at 10:45 a.m. If passed, this law would allow unmarried heterosexual or even homosexual "couples" to jointly adopt children. This law would also create a situation where a child could possibly end up having more than two legal parents. Allowing unmarried couples to jointly adopt children puts these adopted children at risk by making them the only legal strand in divisive custody battles when these unmarried couples decide to go their separate ways. Statistics show that unmarried or co-habiting "families" are less stable than married families. Calls and emails to the House Child and Family Law Committee are needed to oppose this dangerous bill. For more information on House Bill 51, see http://www.hslda.org/Legislation/State/nh/2007/NHHB51/default.asp . ACTION REQUESTED: Please call and/or email members of the House Children and Family Law Committee and give them this message: "Please vote House Bill 51 inexpedient to legislate ("ITL") and protect the historical understanding of the adoption process and to preserve the traditional structure of the family. Children should not have three or more parents nor should they serve as the only legal connection between people. Such a situation puts children at the focal point of terrible custody battles when these less stable relationships dissolve and the child becomes the only 'thing' to fight over." You do not need to identify yourself as a homeschooler. Though this bill affects homeschoolers, it also affects every family in New Hampshire. It is important to call as many of these members as you are able to, especially if they are your representative. However, please be sure to include the following representatives in your calling: Spaulding, Brown, Gargasz, Farley, Matarazzo and Walz. There is no need to contact Representatives Itse or Garcia as they have pledged to vote against this bill. House Children and Family Law Committee Members: Rep.
