====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== March 8, 2007 New Hampshire--Your Voice Crucial in Preserving Traditional Family Dear HSLDA members and friends, Last week, we told you that New Hampshire legislators have introduced six different pieces of legislation recognizing same-sex marriage in New Hampshire. This week, we are asking you to take similar action on two more bills that would recognize same-sex "marriage." These bills are scheduled for a public hearing on Wednesday, March 14, 2007. The bills are: 1) House Bill 791, which recognizes same-sex "marriage." The bill is deceptively labeled as a religious freedom bill because it establishes that no religious official shall be required to solemnize any marriage in violation of his or her constitutional right to free exercise of religion; and 2) House Bill 905, which establishes civil unions as legally recognized relationships. You can see the text of these bills at: http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=3870 (H.B. 791) and http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=3871 (H.B. 905). Both bills will be heard on Wednesday, March 14, 2007, in the Representative's Hall. The hearing on House Bill 905 will begin at 9 a.m., and the hearing on House Bill 791 will start at 1 p.m. We urge you to contact members of the House Judiciary Committee (listed below), and to attend the hearings to oppose these bills. ACTION REQUESTED: 1) Please attend the hearings on March 14, 2007, at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. with other pro family representatives who will also attend and present testimony in opposition to these bills. Be sure to sign the appropriate register and sign up to speak in opposition to the bills. 2) Please call and/or email members of the Judiciary Committee and, in your own words, give them this message: "New Hampshire law already defines marriage as the union of a man and a woman. This should not be changed. Please oppose legislation that recognizes same-sex marriage. Please vote against House Bills 791 and 905, which will erode the strength of the traditional family and threatens parental rights." You do not need to identify yourself as a homeschoolers. Though this bill affects homeschoolers, it also affects every family in New Hampshire. You can reach the Judiciary Committee at 603-271-3184. You can also email most of the committee members using the addresses listed below. House Judiciary Committee Members: Rep. David E. Cote, Chair david.cote@leg.state.nh.us Rep. Janet G.
