====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== February 28, 2007 New Hampshire--Your Voice Crucial in Preserving Traditional Family Dear HSLDA members and friends, New Hampshire legislators have declared war on the traditional family! In the past two months, they have introduced six different pieces of legislation granting same-sex couples the same rights and privileges that heterosexual married couples enjoy. Two of these bills, which have both been referred to the Judiciary Committee, are scheduled for a public hearing on Monday, March 5, 2007. These bills are: 1) House Bill 235, sponsored by Representatives Marlene M. DeChane and Robert L. Theberge, which requires the State of New Hampshire to recognize any out-of-state marriage that is legally performed in another state (such as Massachusetts); and 2) House Bill 437, sponsored by Representatives James R. Splaine and Dana S. Hilliard, which permits same-sex couples to enter into spousal unions and to have the same rights, responsibilities, and obligations as married couples. Both bills will be heard on Monday, March 5, 2007, at the Legislative Office Building, Room 208, starting at 10 a.m. We are urging you to contact members of the Judiciary Committee (listed below), and, if possible, to attend the hearing to oppose these dangerous bills. ACTION REQUESTED: 1) Please attend the hearings on March 5, 2007, at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Other pro-family representatives will also attend, and, if possible, will be presenting testimony in opposition to these bills. 2) Please call and/or email members of the Judiciary Committee and, in your own words, give them this message: "Please oppose legislation that recognizes same-sex marriage. Please vote against House Bills 235 and 437, which as an attack on traditional marriage erode the family and endanger parental rights." You do not need to identify yourself as a homeschooler. Though this bill affects homeschoolers, it also affects every family in New Hampshire. You can reach the Judiciary Committee at 603-271-3184.
