Florida: School District Creates False Deadline for Homeschooler A homeschooling family contacted us after public school officials tried to set a false deadline for submitting their annual evaluation. Illinois: Officials Demand Interview and Curriculum A member family contacted us when their plan to begin homeschooling was met with resistance by local public school officials. We reminded officials that they had no jurisdiction in the matter. Wisconsin: State Website Erroneously Interprets Homeschool Statute One of the great benefits of homeschooling is flexibility in regard to scheduling--a benefit which is specifically protected by Wisconsin law. Unfortunately, a state government website apparently overlooks this legal protection when explaining "home-based private education." Speech Contest Offers Scholarship Opportunity The National Management Association is encouraging homeschoolers to participate in the American Enterprise Speech Contest it sponsors. Open to students in grades 9-12, the top prize is a $10,000 U.S. savings bond. Contestants must contact the national headquarters via their website by March in order to locate a local NMA chapter and be given further details on contest participation. Three of the national finalists last year were homeschooled students.
