Virginia: Victory for Religious Freedom in the Senate

Dear HSLDA members and friends:

Praise God! Thanks to your tireless efforts--and the last-minute calls
by Loudoun homeschoolers to their senator, Mark Herring, who was
trying to block the RFA--the Religious Freedom Act has passed the
Senate. It passed by a significant amount: 28-11.

Now that it has passed the House and the Senate, there is one more
formality before it goes to the governor.

This is an exciting day for Virginia since we are very close to
getting the crucial protection for religious freedom that Virginia has
needed for the last 10 years.

The RFA will provide a stricter standard for the state concerning laws
that regulate or infringe on religious beliefs. It will also provide a
means for working with cities and the state when ordinances or
regulations conflict with religious beliefs. People with religious
beliefs will have an even playing field to deal with the state as this
balancing test is applied.

Thanks once again for your willingness to call your senator and
delegates and let them know that Virginia wants an RFA. We will be
notifying you soon concerning a strategy for contacting your the
governor. At this point, we have no information as to his position,
but because Religious Freedom Acts have been signed into law by
Democratic governors in other states, we are not expecting a problem.

Sincerely,

Christopher J. Klicka
