====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== February 23, 2007 Nebraska--Your Voice Crucial in Preserving Traditional Family Dear HSLDA members and friends, Senators Lowen Kruse, Abbie Cornett, and KiAnna Schimek have introduced Legislative Bill 571, which would allow any two adults, "regardless of their marital status," to jointly adopt children. This bill is relevant to homeschoolers because it undermines the historical understanding of the family. Consequently, the fundamental right of parents to homeschool could be affected because the right to homeschool is based on the sanctity of a traditional interpretation of the family. Legislative Bill 571 (http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=3784) is in the Judiciary Committee, and is scheduled to be heard on Thursday, March 1, 2007, at 1:30 p.m. in Room 1113 on the 1st Floor of the Capitol Building. We are urging you to contact members of the committee (listed below) and, if possible, attend the hearing to oppose this dangerous bill. ACTION REQUESTED: Please call and/or email members of the Judiciary Committee and give them this message: "Please vote against Legislative Bill 571 to protect the historical understanding of the adoption process and to preserve the traditional structure of the family." You do not need to identify yourself as a homeschooler. Though this bill does affect homeschoolers, it also affects every family in Nebraska.
