====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== February 16, 2007 Ohio--Update on Daytime Curfew Ordinance in Mansfield Dear HSLDA members and friends: A proposed daytime curfew was discussed at a recent city council meeting in Mansfield where the chief of police has suggested that such a restriction is needed. We have spoken with members of the council, in particular Scott Hazen and Mike Hill, and we understand that the ordinance has not been introduced formally. Both Councilman Hazen and Councilman Hill (who is running for mayor of Mansfield) have publicly stated their opposition to a daytime curfew. We were told also that the council heard your voices and that they understand that this is being closely watched by the citizens of Mansfield and all of Ohio. The controversy has even reached a national audience. Yesterday, Focus on the Family's Family News in Focus ran a news story about the daytime curfew in Mansfield. You can hear about it here: http://www.citizenlink.org/fnif/ . Daytime curfew legislation undermines the freedom and liberty we enjoy in the United States. Several versions of this ordinance have been considered in other Ohio towns with varying results--last year, it was introduced in Mansfield, but defeated in committee. We hope to be able to achieve a similar result this year. Thank you for your continued vigilance and help in protecting the freedom to homeschool in Ohio. For more information on daytime curfews, please see our analysis of this issue at http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?ID=2102 . Sincerely, Michael P. Donnelly, Esq. We don't know that this has ever been determined; but we do know that HSLDA's National Center for Home Education is the only national organization lobbying on behalf of homeschoolers on Capitol Hill.
