====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== Maryland--Come to "Shine on the State House Day" February 20 Dear HSLDA members and friends, As part of a long-range strategy of protecting homeschool freedom and educating families, The Christian Home Educators Network (CHEN) is sponsoring a "Shine on the State House Day" on February 20. This great event will help draw families to Annapolis to make vital face-to-face contact with their lawmakers. We at the Home School Legal Defense Association believe it is very important for as many homeschool families to attend as possible. Nearly every year there is harmful legislation to fight or pro-home school freedom bills to pass. In our 24 years at HSLDA, we have seen how effective capitol lobby days are in preventing bad legislation or enacting good law. If legislators from either party meet a good homeschool family face-to-face, it makes it hard for them to vote to restrict homeschooling. If they never meet a homeschooler, they will often vote against homeschooling when given the opportunity. In addition to protecting your freedom, the "Shine on the Statehouse Day" is an opportunity for a field trip for your children to learn about our government and how laws are made. Maryland legislators have come to look forward to the happy faces of homeschooled children at this annual event, as well as their families' delicious home-baked goods. If you are planning to attend, please email Donna Jordana at ljordana2@aol.com to rsvp by February 15, 2007. Schedule of Events 10:00 a.m. - Arrive in the U. S.
