====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== Virginia--'Day at the Capitol' in Richmond February 13 Dear HSLDA members and friends, On February 13, the Home Educators Association of Virginia is sponsoring a "Day at the Capitol" in Richmond, Virginia, with re-enactments, tours, and other fun and educational events especially designed for homeschool students. We at the Home School Legal Defense Association believe it is very important for as many homeschool families to attend as possible. Nearly every year there is harmful legislation to fight or pro-home school freedom bills to pass. In our 24 years at HSLDA, I have seen how effective capitol lobby days are in preventing bad legislation or enacting good law. If a legislator from either party meets a good homeschool family face-to-face, it makes it hard for him or her to vote to restrict homeschooling. If they never meet a homeschooler, they will often vote against homeschooling when given the opportunity. In addition to protecting your freedom, the "Day at the Capitol" is an opportunity for a field trip for your children to learn about our government and how laws are made. This popular event will help bring history alive, especially the centrality of our forefathers' pursuit of ordered liberty. Important aspects of the operation of our state government will be explained, with an opportunity to observe the General Assembly via closed circuit television. There will be a discussion of important bills and meetings with your elected officials. For registration information, and more details about this valuable opportunity to learn about our government, go to: http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=3695 Plan ahead and make an appointment with your legislators. Take advantage of this opportunity. Don't miss this year's great event! Sincerely Yours, Scott A. Woodruff HSLDA Staff Attorney ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -> Can you look at the clouds and tell the direction of the wind? An interesting phenomenon of wind is that it can blow in multiple directions at the same time, at different heights from the ground. But usually there is a prevailing wind. HSLDA watches the gusts and monitors the prevailing trends of change in the legal climate of home education. So no matter which way the wind is blowing, we're there to protect your family.
