====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== February 5, 2007 North Dakota--Calls Needed to Support Homeschool Freedom! Dear HSLDA members and friends: Tomorrow morning, February 6, the Senate Education Committee will consider a bill to expand homeschool options for North Dakotans. The committee will conduct a hearing on Senate Bill 2371, which would permit grandparents and foster parents to conduct home education programs. Additionally, this bill would clarify that homeschool students need only take the basic battery of standardized achievement tests. It would also remove the requirement that tests chosen by the homeschool supervisor be nationally normed. Show your support for this bill by contacting members of the Senate Education Committee and attending the hearing at the Capitol Building in Bismarck on Tuesday. The hearing will be in the Missouri River Room at 10:15 a.m. Make this a field trip for your children to observe the legislative process of state government. Regardless of whether you attend the hearing, please call and e-mail members of the committee TODAY and ask them to vote for Senate Bill 2371. ACTION REQUESTED: 1. Please call and write as many members of the Senate Education Committee as possible and urge them to vote in favor of Senate Bill 2371 with this message: "Please vote in favor of Senate Bill 2371, which would permit grandparents and foster parents to conduct home education programs. It would also permit homeschool students to take the same type of standardized achievement tests as public school students." The contact information for the members of the Senate Education Committee is as follows: Sen. Layton W. Freborg, (R): 8th Senate District - Chairman (701) 442-5712 No e-mail available Sen. Please attend the Senate Education Committee Hearing on Tuesday, February 6, 2007, at the Capitol Building in Bismarck. If you are willing to testify, please come early at 9:45 a.m. just outside the Missouri River Room to coordinate testimonies. Even if you are coming to show your support by your presence, which is equally important, please plan to arrive early by 10:00 a.m., just in case the hearing starts earlier than the scheduled 10:15 a.m. starting time. Black, III Senior Counsel HSLDA ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -> How many acorns can a chipmunk hold in its cheeks? We don't know! But we do know that gathering little by little enables ordinary folks to prepare for hard times. That principle is behind HSLDA's payment plan: by paying a month at a time, families can receive an annual HSLDA membership. Meanwhile, they can feel secure as they homeschool and focus on other priorities -- their children. Don't go nuts trying to pay for membership all at once. Choose one of our convenient payment plans.
