====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== January 24, 2007 New Hampshire--Your Voice Crucial in Preserving Traditional Family Dear HSLDA members and friends, Representatives Priscilla P. Lockwood, Candace C. W. Bouchard, Frank A. Tupper, Elizabeth D. Blanchard, and James R. MacKay have introduced House Bill 51, which would clarify New Hampshire law so that unmarried heterosexual and homosexual "couples" may jointly adopt children. House Bill 51 would clarify that two unmarried adults in a "familial relationship" may jointly adopt children. This legislation would allow unmarried heterosexual and homosexual "couples" to "jointly" adopt children as "couples." This is relevant to homeschoolers because this bill undermines the historical understanding of the family. Consequently, the fundamental right of parents to homeschool could be affected because the right to homeschool is based on the sanctity of a traditional interpretation of the family. House Bill 51 (see http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=3645) is in the Children and Family Law Committee, and is scheduled to be heard today, January 24, 2007, at 1:15 p.m. in Legislative Office Building Room 206. We are urging you to contact members of the committee (listed below) and, if possible, attend the hearing to oppose this dangerous bill. ACTION REQUESTED: Please call and/or email members of the House Children and Family Law Committee and give them this message: "Please vote against House Bill 51 to protect the historical understanding of the adoption process and to preserve the traditional structure of the family." You do not need to identify yourself as a homeschooler. Though this bill affects homeschoolers, it also affects every family in New Hampshire. House Children and Family Law Committee Members: Rep. Mary Stuart Gile (Chair) (603) 224-2278 mary.gile@leg.state.New Hampshire.us Rep. Barbara Hull. Richardson (Vice Chair) (603) 239-8346 Rep. Eileen C.
