Missouri: Routine Investigation of All New Homeschoolers to Stop We immediately took action when we heard public school officials in one county were reporting as truant every family who withdrew their children to begin homeschooling. We traced the source of the faulty policy and helped put an end to it. Kentucky: Family Hits Bull's-Eye in Saving Archery Program A family who for years had used archery as part of their homeschooling program almost had their ability to pursue the sport on their own property taken away by city government. We convinced these officials that a proposed ban for homeschools while allowing public and other private schools to conduct an archery program would be discriminatory. California: Letter No Reason to Consider Charter Schools Member families with fewer than six students enrolled in their private school received copies of a letter from the Morongo Unified School District. Virginia: Homeschooler Responds to Unfair Article An article slamming homeschool parents was included in a recently published college research and writing handbook, "The Concise Wadsworth Handbook," by Kirszner and Mandell, giving a homeschool student a chance to shine. Oregon: District Seeks Evaluation A homeschooling mother contacted us when local public school officials inquired about evaluating her daughter for special education needs. We helped the mother inform officials that she intended to use private resources. New York: District Requests Exceeds Law Concerned that their local public school district was requesting additional information, a member family contacted us for help. We showed officials that their request went beyond what the law requires and that the family's paperwork was in order. Arizona: County Revises Form After notifying their county superintendent that their son had graduated from homeschool, a member family received a letter insisting they had to submit a notarized withdrawal form. The family did not think they were required to submit this form, and they were right. Massachusetts: Educating the Educators A homeschooling parent in Massachusetts used our website to help educate the local public school superintendent as to why his demands were outside the law.
