====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== Kentucky--Your Vote Crucial in Preserving Homeschool Freedom Dear Kentucky HSLDA members and friends, Election time is fast approaching. This November 7 some state and federal officials are up for re-election. Who is elected will determine what freedoms you will keep and what freedoms you will lose. Exercising your right to vote is crucial. The voter guides described below will help you make informed decisions as you cast your vote. Remember statistics show approximately only 50% of eligible adults actually register to vote. In any given election only about 50% of registered voters vote (that is 25% of adults)! That means only takes about 13% of adults to elect any given candidate. Your vote does count! ACTION: To find the Kentucky Candidate Information Survey (KCIS) from the Family Trust Foundation of Kentucky for the candidates running for office in your legislative district please go to: http://www.votekentucky.us . You can select the appropriate survey in the various races from the column on the left of the page. If you do not know your legislative district you can find that information by visiting the Kentucky Voter Information Center here: https://cdcbp.ky.gov/VICWeb/index.jsp "The KCIS is designed to be a neutral report of a candidate's views in his or her own words over a broad range of issues using a concise format." If you have not yet used one, you'll be pleased with how easy it is to decide who to vote for by answering the same questions submitted to the candidates and comparing your answers to theirs. The KCIS is nonpartisan and legal for distribution at your church, civic club, etc. To order a copy of the 2006 Kentucky Candidate Information Survey for your area or to request bulk copies for your business or church, please call (859) 255-5300 or email kcis@votekentucky.us . Please help spread the word about this resource for responsible citizenship! Forward this message to your family and friends in Louisiana so they can also use this valuable resource. A couple of things to keep in mind: > For a legal perspective on what activities churches and pastors are allowed to take part in, check out these resources prepared by attorney James Bopp: Do's and Don'ts for Political Activities of Pastors: http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=3379 and Guidelines for Political Activities by Churches and Pastors: http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=3380. > There are a number of ways that you can vote early in Kentucky. Qualified persons can apply for an absentee ballot and mail it to their County Clerk. The ballot must be received by the County Clerk by 6 p.m. on Election Day. Qualified persons may also vote in the County Clerk's office at least 12 days before the election and up until November 6, 2006. For more information go to: http://elect.ky.gov/registrationinfo/absenteeballot.htm or contact your County Clerk. A list of the County Clerk across Kentucky can be found here: http://www.elect.ky.gov/countyclerks.htm . Thanks for caring! Sincerely, Thomas J.
