====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== HSLDA: 'Building Your Homeschool Together' Dear HSLDA members and friends: We would like to tell you about an encouraging and inspirational homeschool seminar that you do not want to miss! As a homeschooling father of seven, I know my wife and I need encouragement in our homeschooling--especially as we tackle a new year with all the stress and strain. Generally, the state of homeschooling is good--the kids are thriving and you moms are so diligent. But it still is hard work! This seminar will be that "shot in the arm" you're looking for. Also, there is one area where we could do better: We homeschool dads aren't all living up to our potential. I had to learn to lead my wife and children effectively. I've been blessed, though: I have had the unique privilege to serve and learn from faithful homeschoolers who have gone before me. I've had so many opportunities to help families after they run into trouble in my 21 years at HSLDA. In many cases, more effective fathering might have prevented the problem. So I try speak and write to help fathers live up to their high calling. Scott Somerville feels the same way I do. I've worked with Scott for 14 years, and I know his heart. He loves helping families homeschool and succeed. That's why Scott and his wife Marcia have decided to offer a seminar for homeschool couples called "Building Your Homeschool Together." Marcia knows what a homeschool mother faces--her six graduated children were home-taught all the way through. She seeks to minister to women by teaching practical academic "how to's" in her all-day Friday seminar (Teaching with Tapestry of Grace), and then joining Scott on Friday nights and Saturdays with messages that reach for moms' hearts, helping them to see that who they are matters far more than how they do. Scott's message to men is simple: Being a homeschool dad is the greatest job in the world, but you weren't born knowing how to do it. Homeschooling families can and should succeed. How is yours doing? If you could use a boost, go hear Scott and Marcia! Their Friday night session is free and open to all. Scott tells "What Wives Wish Husbands Knew about Homeschooling," while Marcia helps moms understand why "The Nearness of God Is My Good." Register now for the full seminar on Saturday and save $10.
