====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== October 17, 2006 Pennsylvania--Update on Homeschool Legislation Dear HSLDA members and friends: Thank you for your many calls and emails yesterday to your state representatives about the proposed homeschool amendment to Senate Bill 143. We received reports that legislators were getting multiple calls from homeschoolers who wanted to be rid of an unnecessarily burdensome law. Unfortunately, yesterday leaders in the House of Representatives decided to "lay aside" Senate Bill 143 before it came to the floor for a final vote. Because of this, Representative Ronald Marsico's proposed amendment of the homeschool language could not be attached to the bill. It turns out that other legislators also intended to attach their own amendments unrelated to homeschooling to Senate Bill 143, thereby complicating the procedure we intended to follow. At this point it is unlikely that there will be another opportunity this legislative session to pass changes to the homeschool law. We will keep you advised of any further developments. Again, thank you for your faithfulness in contacting your state representatives. This helps to lay the groundwork for future action, even if it's during the next legislative session. Very truly yours, Dewitt T. Black, III HSLDA Senior Counsel ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -> Who's knocking on your door?
