-> Is customer service an art or a science?

For us, good customer service is both an art and a science
-it should appeal to our members and be effective. Consider what
our members say about us:

The freedom HSLDA allows me to have as I homeschool is wonderful!
They handle the law and I get to dedicate the time to my daughter.
- National City, CA

HSLDA members since 1993, our membership is just as important to
us as our children's curriculum. Thank you HSLDA for all you do on
our behalf! - West Valley, NY

1. We Need Your Help to Register Voters Next Month

The elections are a few weeks away, but there is still time to
register many new voters. Generation Joshua and the National Center
for Home Education have designated Sunday September 10 and 17 as
"National Voter Registration Sundays." Please consider joining this
effort to help sign up new voters at your church.

2. Southern Baptists Seek Support for Public Schools Exodus

Building on the success of the past few years, homeschooling advocates
are asking their fellow Southern Baptists to continue their efforts to
support an exit strategy from public schools by submitting a
resolution at upcoming state and regional conventions.

3. Washington Times Op-ed--U.N. Treaty Trumps Parental Rights

Could a 10-person panel of foreign nationals dictate, with the full
weight of U.S. law, how we raise our children? This idea seems
far-fetched, even ridiculous, but, unfortunately, it is possible.

http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=3247

.....................................................................
4. Virginia: Culpeper Retracts Remediation Request

When standardized test scores showed one member family that their
children were learning more than enough to satisfy state law, they
were shocked to find that a local public school official disagreed. It
turned out he had made a mistake.

5. S. Dakota: HSLDA Challenges School's Attempt to Impose Deadline

A telephone call to the school superintendent's office cleared up the
matter: Officials agreed they had no legal basis for requiring
homeschoolers to file by a certain date.

6. New Jersey: Investigation Closed after Attorney Call

When a social worker cleared a member family of several false
allegations, she then tried to investigate the family's homeschool.
Our attorney intervened, and the investigation ended.

7. New Hampshire: Bedford 'Truant' on Curriculum Requirement

Apparently unaware of recent changes to state law, a public school
official issued a deadline for a homeschooling family to submit their
curriculum plans for the year. He changed his mind after our lawyer
pointed out his error.

8. New Jersey: Berlin Backtracks on State Law 'Requirement'

A homeschooling family contacted us when their local public school
district unlawfully insisted that they submit an annual notice of
intent. Public school officials backed down after we reacquainted them
with what the law actually states.

9. Constitutional Law Course Registration Deadline Approaching

Register now for the fall semester of Constitutional Law online,
taught by Michael Farris, Chairman and General Counsel of HSLDA and
Chancellor of Patrick Henry College. The class will begin September 5,
2006, and conclude February 18, 2007. If you've always wanted to
learn more about the history and background of our legal system, from
a biblical perspective, or if you're looking for a good U.S.
government class for your homeschooled students, then this class is
for you.

10. 'Home School Heartbeat': Mommy Wars

What motivates couples to make significant financial and lifestyle
changes so that one parent can stay home with the children? Why is the
stability of a child's home life so important in the early years? On
this week's Home School Heartbeat, Mike Smith discusses the challenges
and rewards of stay-at-home parenting.
