====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== August 11, 2006 Ohio--08 Schools Continue to File Notice to Parents with Department of Education Dear HSLDA members and friends: As many of you know, the Home School Legal Defense Association has been working with the Ohio Department of Education to resolve a situation with non-chartered, non-tax supported schools, otherwise known as "08 Schools." This year the Ohio Department of Education demanded additional information from 08 School administrators regarding special education and IDEIA funding for 08 Schools. We continuing to seek a resolution of this matter, but are having to wait for certain vacationing Ohio Department of Education employees to return. Members who have sent the HSLDA Notice to Parents form to the Ohio Department of Education have had their form rejected, and received along with their rejected Notice to Parents a letter and form that they are told they are "required" to use. After speaking with Mike Hubble at the Ohio Department of Education, we agreed that the law does require the Notice to Parents to be filed with the Ohio Department of Education. (The disagreement is whether anything more is required). Thus, at this point, those who have sent their Notice and have had it returned, should resend it to the Ohio Department of Education. Also, members should send a copy of the Notice to HSLDA so that we can compile a list of who we will need to contact when the issue is fully resolved.
