-> You can only do so much...

No one can be everywhere at once. And you can't be at home,
teaching your children, while monitoring your state's legislature.
Through electronic legislative services, HSLDA is monitoring state
legislation for you -- watching and listening carefully for any
proposed laws that could erode your right to homeschool.
Join HSLDA today-we'll watch out for your future.

1. Washington Times Op-ed: Respect Earned but not Always Given

How many parents would say that as their teenager gets older and shows
more and more maturity, that is the time to begin clamping down and
placing more restrictions on him? It does not make sense. Most parents
would be glad to allow their teenager more freedom if he is
demonstrating he can be trusted to be responsible. The same principle
should be applied to homeschoolers.

2. Ohio: Federal Law Versus Religious Freedom

The Ohio Department of Education's misguided interpretation of the
federal No Child Left Behind Act threatens the religious freedom of
certain homeschoolers. Rest assured that Home School Legal Defense
Association will oppose this attack on your constitutional liberties.

3. Utah: Beware of Intrusive 'Health Screenings'

Through schooling your children at home, you are able to keep them
from unwanted and unknown exposure to issues they do not need to
handle at this time.

4. Iowa: Homeschool Privacy Quietly Wins Big

On June 1, homeschool privacy scored a huge "win" when Governor
Vilsack signed a bill that provides complete confidentiality for
homeschool records in Iowa.

5. West Virginia: Roane County Corrects Math

A public school official in Roane County suggested remedial studies
for a member homeschooler based on what were wrongly considered low
test scores. We showed that the student was in compliance with
required academic standards.

6. 'Home School Heartbeat': Interview with Dr. Gene Edward Veith

Our culture is abandoning Christianity. What can we do to redeem the
arts, media, and other major areas of culture? On this week's
programs, Michael Farris and Patrick Henry College's new academic dean
discuss the solution of Christian education.

6. Generation Joshua: 2006 Summer Camp is Next Week

Around 90 campers, parents and staff will participate in the 2006
Generation Joshua Summer Camp, held this year from August 13-19, in
Estes Park, Colorado. It should be a week to remember.
