~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Home School Foundation Report ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ July/August 2006 It's busy season here at the Home School Foundation as homeschooling families begin to gear up for the upcoming school year. ..................................................................... 2005 Annual Report Now Online The 2005 Fiscal Year was monumental for the Foundation with over a million dollars raised for the first time, Hurricane Katrina, and the beginning of the Single Parent fund. To see what God has done in the homeschool community, view the HSF Annual Report at http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=3196 . ..................................................................... 2nd Annual Photography Contest a Success The second annual photography contest blew previous contests out of the water with a whopping 430 entries from all over the world. Students displayed their creativity with a vast array of photography. One of the judges commented: "Each of this year's winning entries showed the photographer has a real understanding of what makes up a nice image. More than just mere point-and-shoot photos, they were thought out beforehand with primary attention given to not just the subject, but also light and composition--critical elements to a good photograph." The biggest blessing about this contest is that all the proceeds, totaling over $3,390, went to the Special Needs Children's Fund and will help homeschooling families with the expenses of private special educational services. Thanks to all who entered--God used your talent to help others! To view the winning photos, go here: http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=3197 . ..................................................................... Calling All Aspiring Writers and Artists! The annual essay and art contests will be held this fall, so get your pencils and paints ready! The contest topics will be announced by September 5, 2006 and the deadline will be October 31, 2006. More information will be posted on HSLDA weekly emails and on the contest website at: http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=3198 . ..................................................................... Home School Foundation Hosted Table at Debate Nationals During the National Christian Forensics and Communications Association National Tournament at Patrick Henry College June 5-9, 2006, HSF was delighted to be able to host a table to spread the word about helping needy homeschoolers. Selling inexpensive refreshments to visitors worn out by the summer heat, we were able to talk to tournament competitors and their families about HSF's mission. ..................................................................... For those of you who have invested in the Foundation through your gifts and prayers, we share the following notes from homeschooling families you have helped. > Special Needs Children's Fund The following letter was written by a young man with autism. HSF gave his family a grant to buy curriculum to teach him, and we prize this letter as we usually only hear from parents. i so excitd god givs mommy mony by me school work for computr i so excitd cant wat start school work now yes god is so cool His mother writes, "Yes, God is 'so cool' and He has used the Special Needs Children's Fund to bless my son with the curriculum he needed. Thank you for blessing us with 'hope in the Lord' in this special way!" --C.B. > Patrick Henry College Scholarship Fund Thank you so very much for the $500 scholarship. I am looking forward to attending Patrick Henry, and as I am paying for much of my own education, your contribution is enormously appreciated! Thanks again. --T.R. > Widow Curriculum Scholarship Fund Our family is so grateful for this very generous gift for our curriculum needs. We rejoiced together as the Lord's faithfulness in providing for us. My husband went to heaven almost a year ago. His desire was that I could continue to stay at home with our four children. Lord willing, my son will graduate from our homeschool next year. There have been many times that I did not think we would make it this far, but this gift, among other factors, has confirmed that the Lord's desires is for us to continue. Thank you for being a part of His loving encouragement to us. -- K.S. Thank you, thank you! God spoke a long time ago that He would make a way where there seemed to be no way. Over and over His faithfulness has amazed and encouraged me! --C.M. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Home School Foundation Report is a service of: Home School Foundation P.O.
