Home School Foundation Report--May/June 2006

Home School Foundation Report

May/June 2006

Spring has been busy for the Home School Foundation, with our annual
poetry contest, Patrick Henry College Scholarship applications, and
homeschool conferences.

......................................................................

Second Annual Poetry Contest a Success

This contest was a busy one, with 249 entries from all over the
country. Despite needing to write to a strict poetic form, 73 more
students entered than last year! One of the judges commented on the
many entries, "I was surprised by the beauty and uniqueness of the
imagery in the poetry. I greatly enjoyed reading the poems. Even in
those instances where the meter or grammar was not perfect, the power
of the poetry overcame the imperfections."

One of the biggest blessings about this contest is that all proceeds,
which totaled $1,395, went to the Special Needs Children's Fund and
will help homeschooling families with the expenses of private special
educational services. Thanks to all who entered--God used your talent
to help others!

Home School Foundation to Visit Three Homeschool Conferences in 2006

Spring is conference season for the homeschool community, and HSF is
joining in the fray! We will be spreading the word about our funds and
how we help needy homeschoolers. We'll also host special drawings for
those who subscribe to our periodic updates.

On May 12-13, The Home School Foundation traveled to Harrisburg,
Pennsylvania for the annual Christian Homeschool Association of
Pennsylvania conference. A homeschooling family from Dillsburg,
Pennsylvania won a parent get-away at Founder's Inn in Virginia Beach,
Virginia.

On May 25, HSF will be at the Florida Parent-Educators Association
convention in Kissimmee, Florida. Someone at this conference will win
a three-night get-away in Pinehurst, North Carolina.

HSF will also travel to Richmond, Virginia for the Home Educators
Association of Virginia (HEAV) conference on June 8-10, 2006. Here the
Foundation will be hosting a special drawing for a free seven-day
family vacation to Silver Lake Resort in Orlando, Florida. If you're
at this conference, be sure to see the HSF booth for more details.

2006 Patrick Henry College Scholarship Winners

In May, the 16 winners of Patrick Henry College Scholarships were
announced. The candidates had to complete a lengthy application
process that required two essays, hours of community service, and
letters of commendation. Congratulations to the winners!

For those of you who have invested in the Foundation through your
gifts and prayers, we share the following notes from homeschooling
families you have helped.

> Special Needs Children's Fund:

I just can't express our gratefulness of having received a check for
our son's therapies. The original letter HSF sent out telling of this
program came at such a low point for us that I couldn't help but feel
it was the Lord's prompting. Thank you, thank you for blessing us with
this gift!
--A.K.

> Members Helping Members Fund

Thank you so very much for allowing us to reap the benefit of your
Members Helping Members scholarship fund. It has been humbling to my
husband and I to be in this position, and also to know that people
give generously to help others in this position. We look forward to
giving to this fund in the future. Thank you.
--S.F.

When I opened the letter you sent letting us know that you have
granted our family a full scholarship for another year as HSLDA
members, I was absolutely flabbergasted. I don't know how to thank you
for this wonderful generosity. We did not expect such a blessing and
are deeply touched by this gesture from you
--C.C.

> Widow Curriculum Scholarship Fund

I just want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. But, words
aren't really enough. I hope that someday I can contribute to the fund
to help someone else as others have helped me. God bless them all!
--B.B.

Thank you so much for your help. This is a blessing to be able to
continue homeschooling my children. Our God is so good to us. He
provides in every way. Homeschooling was my husband's desire (in the
beginning) and I wish to continue with the goals that we started
together. This scholarship means that there is no question about
continuing to homeschool. Thank you again.
--S.S.
