4. Virginia: Publicity Follows Religious Exemption Hearing

When the Lancaster County school board summoned a family to answer
questions about their attempt to homeschool under Virginia's religious
exemption statute, we intervened. The case resulted in a powerful
statement for homeschooling within the local community.

5. Hawaii: Parents Told State Assessment Tests a Must

Several member families contacted us when a school district sent a
letter insisting homeschooled children take the state assessment test.
We showed officials that state law makes no such requirement.

6. High School Diplomas for Homeschooled Graduates

A high school diploma represents the completion of a milestone in your
teen's life. Don't shortchange your student by neglecting to give him
recognition for a job well done. High school graduation is a time of
celebration so consider a small graduation ceremony with family and
friends, or join with other homeschooling families to applaud his
achievements and to hand him that well-deserved diploma.
