Virginia--Hearing Tomorrow on Proposed Anti-Family Ordinance

Dear HSLDA members and friends:

We urgently need your help to stop a plan that could force larger
families to sell their homes, or pressure them to stop having

Tomorrow at 2 p.m., the Clarke County Board of Supervisors will hold a
public hearing on a proposed ordinance that would limit the number of
adults and children who can live in a house with a drain field in
Clarke County--even if they are all of the same immediate family.

The plan would make it illegal for more than 2 people, multiplied by
the number of permitted bedrooms, to live in a house with a septic
drain field. For example, only 6 people could legally live in a
3-bedroom house. If that family had another baby, they could face the
prospect of being punished for violating the law.

1. Please come to the Board of Supervisors meeting tomorrow at 2 p.m.
at 102 North Church St., in the large meeting room on the second floor
of the court house.

2. Please call other families and ask them to come.

3. Call your pastor, priest, etc., and ask them to come and oppose
this ordinance.

4. Call members of the Board of Supervisors. Your message can be as
simple as, "Please oppose the planning commission's effort to make it
difficult or impossible for large families to live in homes with drain

In response to opposition to the proposal, the planning commission
modified their proposal by adding a complex, expensive, time-consuming
procedure for requesting an exception. Even if the family managed to
jump through all the hoops, the officials would still have the
discretion to reject the family's request. Even if an exception were
granted, the family might have to pay to have their well metered and
their water usage reported to officials.

The simple solution is to create a blanket exclusion so the plan does
not affect persons who are all of the same immediate family.

Thank you for standing with us for freedom.

We don't know! But we do know that gathering little by little
enables ordinary folks to prepare for hard times. That principle
is behind HSLDA's payment plan: by paying a month at a time,
families can receive an annual HSLDA membership. Meanwhile, they
can feel secure as they homeschool and focus on other priorities
-their children. Don't go nuts trying to pay for membership all at
once. Choose one of our convenient payment plans.
