====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== May 3, 2006 Ohio--Homeschoolers Win Daytime Curfew Battle! Dear HSLDA members and friends: At about 4 Monday evening, Home School Legal Defense Association was informed of a city council meeting in Lyndhurst, Ohio, where a daytime curfew ordinance was going to be considered and potentially voted on. In a last minute call to action, because the meeting was at 8 p.m., HSLDA sent out an e-lert to families within driving distance of Lyndhurst, asking them to show up at the meeting to oppose this infringement of family freedoms. HSLDA also provided a memorandum explaining the illegality of daytime curfews, equipping attendees to back up their opposition with legal arguments. Despite the last-minute notice, over 50 people, the majority of whom were homeschoolers, showed up for the meeting. Even the news media caught wind of the controversy and came to cover the meeting. It did not take long for the council to acknowledge and yield to the show of opposition. We have been informed that the ordinance has been withdrawn and will not be considered any further. HSLDA would like to thank those families that took the effort to go to the meeting or call the council. Your voices were heard! Sincerely, Scott W. Somerville, Esq. HSLDA Staff Attorney ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -> "I saved my entire membership fee with one discount" "When I called Liberty to find out what kind of discount we could get, they told us we would 10% off our car insurance and 5% off our homeowner's insurance. What we will save is more than double what it costs to join HSLDA. With one child getting his driver's license this year, the savings will be a real blessing!"
