====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== April 28, 2006 Colorado--More Good News on Compulsory Attendance Bill! Dear HSLDA members and friends: Senate Bill 73 was yet again amended on Thursday, April 20, to raise the bill's minimum age requirement from 6, back to age 7! This means that homeschool families operating their home education program under a private satellite school will only be subjected to one more year of compulsory attendance (age 16 to 17)! The homeschool exemption still remains in S.B. 73, exempting families operating under the homeschool statute from the extra year of compulsory attendance. S.B. 73 passed House Appropriations unamended and is now going back to the House floor for final passage. From there it must go back to the Senate for approval of House amendments (deleting 2 of the 3 additional compulsory attendance years and adding the homeschool exemption). This bill has yet to be signed by the Governor and there is a possibility he may veto it. We will keep you posted as to when to call his office.
